Interim Results of Uzhhorod National University (UzhNU) in the Implementation of the Project “Re-Direction"

One of the key topics discussed during the scientific-practical seminar “Integration of Sustainable Development Goals into the Educational Process at UzhNU”, held within the framework of the “Week of Action and Awareness-Raising on the UN Sustainable Development Goals”, was “Modernization of Educational Programs in the Digital Context and the Introduction of Inclusive and Green Competences Based on EU Best Practices and Policy Recommendations at UzhNU.”

The event, organized by the Global University Coalition in partnership with the State University of New York, took place at Uzhhorod National University in March 2025. The interdisciplinary seminar provided an opportunity to discuss key aspects of acquiring relevant competencies for students at various educational levels in the context of integrating the concept of sustainable development into curricula and the need for sustainable and inclusive digital transformation.

The head of the expert group from UzhNU, Associate Professor Vitalii Andreiko, informed participants about the progress of the RE-DIRECTION project (“Rethinking Higher Education in the Digital Context while Promoting a Common, Inclusive and Sustainable Framework Based on EU Best Practices and Policy Recommendations”), funded under the Erasmus+ KA2 program.

The project aims to rethink higher education by reforming curricula in Ukraine and Georgia in line with EU best practices. The main focus is on:

1. strengthening digital skills,

2. introducing green competences,

3. promoting inclusivity in higher education,

4. addressing digital connectivity issues in remote areas.

Vitaily Andreiko also shared information about the modernization of educational programs at the Faculty of History and International Relations at UzhNU. Experts developed a methodological framework that integrates digital, green, and inclusive competences into the higher education system.

Over the past year, experts from UzhNU and several other partner universities from Ukraine and Georgia conducted research to identify and address critical gaps and challenges in pedagogical methods related to digital transformation, sustainability, and inclusivity in higher education institutions in Georgia and Ukraine. At the same time, experts from European partner institutions, particularly the International University of Karlshochschule (Germany), prepared a compilation of best practices regarding pedagogical methods that foster inclusivity in European universities.

An important element of this project is ongoing communication with higher education stakeholders—individuals and legal entities who have a legitimate interest in the university’s educational activities, meaning they are either affected by or can influence them. It is worth noting that in recent years, UzhNU has been consistently working with stakeholders at both the local and national levels.
