As part of the Re-Direction project, a critical "Standards Development Workshop" was successfully held on August 20th, 2024, in Kyiv. The event brought together key stakeholders and educators to refine and finalize educational standards and learning outcomes that align with European benchmarks. This workshop represents a significant milestone in enhancing the quality and relevance of higher medical education in Ukraine.
Digitalization and Modern Educational Tools The workshop emphasized the importance of digital competencies for both educators and students. Discussions included the integration of digital tools and resources into the curriculum, such as Google Meet and Google Classroom, and the introduction of new criteria for the digital literacy of educators. The goal is to ensure that medical students are well-versed in modern technologies that are increasingly essential in the educational process. Innovations such as online lectures, student identification algorithms for knowledge assessments, and the use of platforms like Amboss and Coursera were highlighted. These tools are aimed at improving the quality of education by providing students with access to a wide range of resources, including simulation training and virtual patients.
Sustainability in Medical Education The workshop also addressed sustainability in medical education, identifying areas for improvement at both the organizational and departmental levels. Initiatives discussed included the implementation of electronic documents for student assessments, the use of electronic health records during clinical training, and interdisciplinary approaches to education. These efforts aim to streamline processes and reduce environmental impact while enhancing the educational experience.
Promoting Inclusivity Inclusivity was another key focus of the workshop. Strategies were discussed to address language barriers for international students and to integrate global health challenges, such as tropical diseases, into the curriculum. These efforts are designed to ensure that all students, regardless of their background, can achieve the program’s learning outcomes and are well-prepared for global medical practice.
Conclusion The "Standards Development Workshop" was a significant event within the Re-Direction project, reflecting a collaborative effort to elevate educational standards in Ukraine's medical education system. The outcomes of this workshop will play a crucial role in shaping the future of medical education, ensuring that it meets both national and international standards.
