Workshop on AI for resource and process optimization in hospitals

As part of our Re-Direction project, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sasanka Potluri from Karlshochschule conducted a workshop focused on the application of AI tools in hospitals. Prof. Potluri, a professor of Computer Science and Medical Informatics at Karlshochschule, has dedicated the past four years to researching resource and process optimization in hospitals. During the workshop, he shared his expertise on implementing AI solutions in three key hospital domains:

- resource optimization through AI supported duty scheduling

- process optimization by using AI tools in the process of patient transportation

- in the subject of transfusion medicine the AI generated forecast of platelet requirements.

He also highlighted both the significant challenges and potential errors associated with introducing AI in hospitals, as well as the positive outcomes and benefits that AI can deliver.

The workshop included discussions among partners about the current state of AI adoption in hospitals across Ukraine, Georgia, and Greece. All participants agreed that expanding the use of AI could help address many persistent obstacles in these healthcare systems.
